Most offers argue for the quality or ageability of their wines though with Grange des Pères we can happily presume upon both.  So instead a short musing on the wine’s style.

Despite blending Mourvèdre, Syrah, and a smaller portion of Cabernet, Grange des Pères rouge remains a vividly multi-varietal wine.  Most blended wines converge varietal inputs to the point that grape-specific aromas and flavors sacrifice to a larger expressive unity.  Champagne typifies this first group.  A second subset resists purée-like cohesion in preference for multi-voice distinctiveness.  Grange des Pères is one such wine.

A final word on drinking windows.  Few of us require persuading that this wine ages though I dissent from the commonplace that age is necessary for pleasure.  I instead find the rouge decants willingly (at any age) toward whatever pleasures and particulars the vintage directs it toward.  If the nose is missing black pepper, wild fennel, or violets an hour and a wide decanter will get you there.

Cheers,

Jason
