Jean-Marie Roumier took over the family domaine in succession to his father Georges in 1957.  Personal Roumier experience begins with the 1961s, remarkable triumphs in context of their variable vintage, and a sprinkling of late-1960s Chambolle villages including this very 1969 several years back.  That wine’s perfume still haunts expectation each time we crack Chambolle of a certain age even if we’ve learned to live with wines failing to equal that wine’s delicacy and charm.

1978 Bussière, a more recent memory, was shockingly youthful over a roast chicken (what else?) early last year.  That bottle took its sweet time adding the looked for spicy, earthy complexity, but more than any experience in memory reminded that decades rather than years measures Bussière longevity.
