A stunningly good bottle of 2009 Chevillon Nuits ‘Chaignots’ last month left us scrambling for as many Chevillon 2009s as we could get our hands on.  They’ve become considerably harder to track down in recent years though, this little parcel of 2009 ‘Les Saint Georges’ being the first we’ve scored since.

The domaine owns a gorgeous top-to-bottom slice of 90 year old vines at the northern end of the vineyard.  Chevillon’s plot here is easy to find: if you're among the most knotted, oldest-looking and/or best manicured vines, you’ve arrived.

I much prefer this cuvée in warm(er) vintages when flesh clings more stoutly to the considerable ‘Les Saint Georges’ structure.  2009 provides an illustrative example.  The wine is dark and full, yet neither somber nor introverted.

Cheers,

Jason
