As the daughter of winemakers, Manon Boutillez-Guer’s family has been in Villers-Marmery for over five centuries. Manon returned to winemaking in 2018 after working as a nurse, and launched her first micro cuvées in 2020.

This village of Villers-Marmery is on the Terroir of Grand Montagne de Reims (which makes up nearly 50% of the Region Montagne de Reims); however, while the region is known for Pinot Noir production, this village is situated on a unique limestone plateau that comes up close to the soil’s surface making it better suited for Chardonnay. It shares this outcropping with three other 1er cru villages on what is known as La Perle Blanche (the White Pearl). Also, the vines are E/SE-facing whereas the other villages of the Montagne de Reims are oriented north. It allows for the grapes to ripen in the cooler morning sunshine before the inhospitable mid-day heat and, not unlike the Cote des Blancs and the Cote de Beaune, it must be an exposure that Chardonnay likes. As compared to the wines of the Cote des Blancs, the wines are slightly more full-bodied, softer, and somewhat more fruity, a more complementary profile for these bone-dry wines of Manon Boutillez-Guer.

Manon's father began using traditional mechanical growing techniques in the family vineyard about 15 years ago. Taking things a bit further, Manon is working some plots in an organic and biodynamic way, and she earned an HVE/VDC certification in 2021. She works taking into account the moon cycle (especially for bottling and disgorging), and she is very curious of the biodiversity in her vineyard and how she can benefit all plants and native species.
