One of the superstar producers of Pomerol – and indeed the world – Vieux Chateau Certan has taken its wines to the stratosphere over the past two decades or so. VCC (as it is affectionately, and conveniently known) is perfectly situation on the plateau of Pomerol, surrounding on all sides by royalty – Chateaux Petrus, La Fleur-Petrus, Lafleur, Conseillante, l’Evangile, Le Pin, and Certan-de-May.
The vineyards are planted to predominantly Merlot (70%), with Cabernet Franc (25%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) making the balance. The wine is entirely destemmed, and generally sees around 75% new oak barriques during its ageing.
